The Princess Theatre Creative Performance Academy partner together to bring you a Sunday afternoon filled with FUN ACTIVITIES, CRAFTS and REGISTRATION OPPORTUNITIES to get your child involved in theatre. Take part in mini acting workshops, costuming, choreography, rock painting and take advantage of

Programs offered:

Adopt-A-School (performance and production)This year-long program is intended for schools that don't have performing arts programs. The program consists of in-depth performance training, collaborative production and performance. Students in this program will receive training in various aspects of performance and production development. The goal is to create a self-sustaining theatre education program for the schools that we adopt. 

Royal Academy (performance and production) - This is a year-long program will be held at the Princess Theatre. Classes will consist of intense performance training, collaborative production and performance. Students in this program will learn to work in an ensemble, devise performances and receive training in all aspects of performance and production development. Class size is limited so sign up today!

Class schedule: 

Wednesdays: 12:30pm - 2:00pm September 6, 2017 to November 29, 2017 and January 10, 2018 to May 2, 2018

Fridays: 3:30pm - 5:00pm September 8, 2017 to December 1, 2017 and January 12, 2018 to May 4, 2018

Arts Integration Made Simple -  This is a FREE  professional development workshop for educators who want to integrate the arts into their core curriculum or core subjects into their arts curriculum. This workshop is interactive and provides teachers with tools and strategies from performance training that can be used to enhance instruction, deepen student understanding and retention of new information. This program is in conjunction with the Alabama Arts Education Initiative to promote arts integration throughout the state. It's free and your students get a discount on the Adopt-A-School program offered at your school. 

Special EducationThis year long program is designed for students with special needs and consists of in-depth performance training, collaborative production and performance. Students in this program will receive training in the various aspects of performance and production development. For more information on program specifics please email education@princesstheatre.org

Extended Day Programs We are proud to announce that we are in partnership with Decatur City Schools to offer Performance Training classes as a part of their extended day programs at the following schools:

Eastwood Elementary, Benjamin Davis Elementary, Chestnut Grove Elementary, Walter Jackson Elementary

What are some benefits of theatre and performance training? Students who participate in theatre arts build soft skills which are extremely important and marketable in every profession. Some examples of soft skills that we aim to strengthen are: Focus, working with an ensemble, Control (physical, mental, emotional, social), multi-tasking, time management, problem solving, delayed gratification, constructive disagreement, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, group conflict resolution, Kinesthetic awareness, mindful attention, strong leadership, engaged follower-ship, listening deeply in a collaborative setting.
