THE ELEPHANT SANCTUARY

Video, lecture and book signing. This presentation will engage and involve audiences of any age. It starts with a poignant story of Jenny and Shirley, who reunite at the Sanctuary after meeting in a circus 20 years prior. It will also feature wonderful footage of the elephant residents as well as give a brief overview of the history and operations of the Sanctuary.

TENNESSEE WILLIAMS

PROFESSOR ROBERT BRAY
MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY

Monday, March 3, 7:00 p.m.

Dr. Bray earned the Ph.D. at the University of Mississippi and has taught at Memphis State University and East Tennessee State (where he directed the International Studies Program). He now teaches courses in modern American literature, modern drama, and Tennessee Williams. The author of several essays, introductions, and chapters in books on Williams, he edits The Tennessee Williams Annual Review published at MTSU and directs the Tennessee Williams Scholars' Conference held in New Orleans. Dr. Bray is the founding editor, The Tennessee Williams Annual Review (1998-2002).

7TH ANNUAL CALHOUN WRITERS' CONFERENCE

FEATURING ROY HOFFMAN AND JOHN SLEDGE

Thursday, March 13, 7:00 p.m.

Roy Hoffman is the author of Almost Family, winner of the Lillian Smith Award for fiction, and Back Home: Journeys Through Mobile. A native of Mobile, Alabama, he worked in New York City for twenty years as a journalist, speechwriter, editor, and teacher, before returning South as writer-in-residence at the Mobile Register, where he is now on staff.

John Sledge is Book Editor of the Mobile Press Register and writes a weekly column for the paper. Actively involved in the preservation of the architecture and history of Mobile, Sledge is an architectural historian with the Mobile Historic Development Commission, a department of the City of Mobile.
